We’ve put together the top 10 things to do before you graduate. From hitting the gym to learning to juggle there’s something on the list for everyone.

1. Work a minimum wage job – Although some may find it meager and unnecessary to spend their time at a job that pays pennies, however, it may be worth more than just your paycheck. Spending a summer taking out the trash at McDonalds, moving furniture or bagging groceries will make you appreciate the opportunities that come along with your diploma and quite possibly help you stay focused on doing well in school, graduating and finding a better paying job post-graduation.

2. Learn a random skill – Why you ask? Because, when else in your life will you possibly have the time, resources and freedom to do so? College campuses are flooded with opportunities to learn new things. Whether it’s fencing, cake decorating, playing the harmonica or learning to tap dance I am sure you’ll be able to find a friend to join you in the adventure – it’ll be something you’ll never forget!

3. Take a leadership role in an organization – Who doesn’t want to exercise and establish dominance over a group of their peers and look like a rock star at the same time?! While in college take the chance to embrace your inner leadership skills and accomplish something you never thought you would. As an extra added bonus, employers are always looking for undertakings like this on the resumes of recent graduates; it shows initiative and helps set you apart from the competition.

4. Befriend a professor – Find a professor that you genuinely like and show interest in building a better relationship with them. Not only will this lead to interesting conversations and a lasting friendship, but it will also likely benefit you down the road. It can be helpful to use them as a strong hiring reference and a reliable go-to person for professional advice during the course of your career.

5. Get in Shape – Forge the freshman fifteen and focus on getting into shape. College students oftentimes are at their peak life season for health and physical endurance. Maximize your opportunities now because it only gets more difficult with age.

6. Go on a Blind Date – If you’re not already in a relationship, college is the perfect opportunity to go on a blind date. You’re young and single, so why not! Regardless of whether it works out, you’ll have a fun story to share with your friends afterwards. If you’re interested, let your friends know, we’re sure they will know someone they’d be glad to help set you up with!

7. Stay Up All Night – You don’t have to be cramming for an exam in order to stay up all night. Have fun and invite your friends over. Order some pizzas, buy a case or two of soda and lounge around until you see the sun come up. We promise you’ll have a good time just hanging out together, just be sure you plan around your exams – it’s best to wait until the weekend if you’re up for this type of an all-nighter!

8. Pull the Ultimate Prank – You’re a college student – you’re expected to have fun and pull pranks on your friends. As long as it holds no long term damage, we say go for it! You only live once so if you’re getting ready to graduate and haven’t pulled a prank yet, start planning one today before it’s too late.

9. Keep a Journal – After you graduate you’ll look back on your college days. Keep a journal to help you remember how much fun you had and what it was like. You’ll also be able to share it with your spouse or kids when they go off to college too.

10. Take a Trip – Gather up your buddies and take a trip. It’ll be nice to get out of town and hang out together before you have to start worrying about paying bills and having a job. Explore the world and go somewhere you’ve never been before just because you can.

Find out the latest about UA sustainability initiatives and meet like-minded individuals at this open-to-the-public meeting.

Wednesday

Open House and Brown Bag lecture, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sustainability House

One of our Public Policy grad students Elvira Kizilova will present a lecture on sustainable tourism. It is a brown bag lecture with arts and crafts stations.

Friday

Creek history & restoration, 2 to 4 p.m., Sustainability House

Hear about the creek’s restoration and how you can leave a positive, lasting mark on the community. Drinks, gloves and bags are provided.

Whether you’re looking for the perfect job or applying for a summer internship make yourself available. Be sure you have a professional voicemail message on your phone and professional email address on your resume. Do your best to answer all phone calls professionally, avoiding any potential missed calls. Recruiters and employers want see professionalism portrayed in every aspect of a candidate right down to their email address.

Searching for the perfect internship or career can be tough. In order to find the opportunities best suited for you, your interests, your skills and your degree work with your college advisor, search online and take recommendations from professors or other people in the field you want to work in. There are tons of internship search sites and job search sites to choose from to help you with your search.

Fact #4 – “Chuck Norris once shot an entire family for misspelling his name”

Pay attention to the details! Before submitting your resume or internship application edit and proofread it multiple times yourself then have it edited and proofed by multiple others as well. Multiple rounds of peer review and even using professional services to evaluate your resume or application will pay off in the end. Don’t let a silly misspelling, missing punctuation mark or grammatical error ruin your chances.
