Green Apartments near University of Michigan | Living Beyond Green
Living Beyond Green is Sterling’s commitment to developing green apartments near University of Michigan that meet the highest standards of performance and sustainability. The results have a direct impact not only on the environment, but on the standard of living for our residents and their pocketbooks, as well.
Being a builder of green apartments near University of Michigan takes dedication. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) developed an internationally recognized green building rating and certification system called LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The purpose of this national standards system is to benefit both the environment and a building’s community and residents.
LEED provides voluntary benchmarks for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of green buildings and structures. Covering the entire building lifecycle, LEED is truly a robust framework of guidelines and measures that only the most environmentally responsible and sustainable buildings are able to attain.
LEED governs all the major “green areas”, such as, water and energy efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of materials & resources.
Common examples of the materials representative of LEED certified buildings include solar power, energy saving appliances, and advanced roofing and wall materials that provide superior insulation.
And, LEED goes beyond just materials, rewarding sites for choosing green building locations—for example, sites already near existing infrastructure, transit routes and open spaces for physical activity—in addition to a site’s ability to educate its residents about how to maximize the use of its green features.
